The Penn State Abington Office of Development and Alumni Relations has announced the winners of its annual alumni awards, which recognize the service, accomplishments, and philanthropic investments of Abington alumni and friends for enriching the campus and student experience.
Penn State Abington held a special event celebrating its donors, faculty, staff and students for exceeding its campus goal in the University-wide campaign, “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence.” Officials announced that Abington achieved a record-breaking six-year total of more than $27.5 million during the campaign, propelled by the broad support of 3,300 gifts from nearly 2,000 alumni, friends, foundations and corporate partners.
The Barnes & Noble campus bookstore gift cards are awarded to Penn State Abington students who receive federal Pell Grants due to exceptional financial need. About 38% of Abington students are eligible for Pell Grants.
Working through the Penn State Corporate Engagement Center, Barnes & Noble College has awarded $165,000 in grants to support 11 initiatives across the University. The grants support a range of colleges, campuses and units to advance programs where Penn State and Banes & Noble share mutual interest.
Ellen Knodt, professor of English, and Linda Miller, distinguished professor of English, have jointly endowed an annual award to honor the scholarship of an accomplished English student at Penn State Abington.
Longtime Penn State Abington supporters Joseph and Jo Anne Lurquin signed a five-year pledge to establish the Penn State Abington Engineering Excellence Fund. In recognition of their significant commitment, Chancellor Margo DelliCarpini named the recently renovated engineering lab in the Woodland Building in their honor.
